How I Teach: 1000th Day of School Activities for 5th Graders
1000th Day of School Writing Craft and Bulletin Board Display
Did you know that the 100th Day of School is ALSO the 1000th Day of School for 5th graders? Here’s the math! 180 days in a school year x 5 school years (Kindergarten through 4th grade) = 900. Plus 100 days and you have a 100th Day of School and 1000th Day of School Double Whammy!
I love celebrating this with my 5th graders because it feels like such a meaningful milestone! In my class, we do this fun writing craft reflection, which has my students reflecting on their full elementary school experience.
How I teach this 1000th Day of School Activity
This is such an easy no prep lesson for me but meaningful memory activity for my students! I make packets with all of the pages in it, stapled, and simply pass them out, and my students get to work! They fill out each page with their best drawing and writing. Then they cut out all of the pages, stack them so the tops are aligned, and staple and done!
In my class, we complete this assignment in 1-2 days. Fast workers can complete this in about an hour, while slower workers will require two. We hang them up in our class on a bulletin board and it makes a great display for Open House that both students and parents love to flip through.
When I send them home, I always encourage students to give their foldable to their parents to keep, because this makes a great keepsake that students will love looking back on when they are older or all grown up!
Interesting in using this 100th Day of School for 5th graders activity?
You can easily use this same lesson in your classroom. No prep for you, but super meaningful for your students. And I LOVE how they look on my bulletin board and how both students and parents will stop to read through these foldables. Click this LINK to grab your own, or click on the images directly!
